About Me

From an early obsession with transforming visual content, I've spent the last 9 years pushing the boundaries of media synthesis. From YouTube videos to VR and Hollywood.

For the past 3 years, I've been part of Metaphysic's award-winning team, where I blend ethical Machine Learning and Engineering with modern production pipelines to make the impossible look effortless.

Hey, I'm Guus. I'm 22 years old, and since 2017 I've been happily disappearing into VR headsets.

I have a great passion for immersive storytelling, shared experiences, and building worlds that people can actually step into.

It's been a place for creativity, experimentation, and meeting some truly wonderful humans. I keep things positive and light, and VR has been the perfect place for that energy to live.

Photogrammetry & Gaussian Splatting

Capturing real life places, objects and moments for use in VR.

Something that's been really interesting me as a way of preserving moments, places and things. Whether it be experiencing my mouse cage in VR, or bringing home a statue using 3d printing.

VRchat avatars

I've been having quite a bit of fun using different tech to create virtual avatars, such as software that converts facial photos into 3D models, with Mark Zuckerberg as a test subject.

When the Minecraft Movie released, I saw the pretty iconic action figure they released alongside it.

I decided to buy one, 3d scan it using photogrammetry, and turn it into an avatar people can change into in VR :)

Projection Mapping

Several years ago, I 3D-printed a small-scale Disney castle. I wanted to try projecting a Youtube video of their fireworks show onto it, but quickly learned of the real challenges of projection mapping: spatial calibration, perspective distortion, and precise alignment. But, overcoming those hurdles, made it all the more rewarding.

Later, I rebuilt the entire setup in VR. The virtual version became a surprisingly powerful testbed and viewing canvas, and getting direct feedback from a large audience was great.

While not a replacement for the real deal, it certainly is an ideal canvas to watch a YouTube video of the show on.

Vrchat Worlds

I've also been exploring creating VRchat worlds for quite a bit now.

At first I used the VRchat SDK because it had more features that Unity's VR SDK, but with time I realized the value in sharing experiences, rather than them being stand-alone.

That sharing of moments fueled a bit of an addiction with creating worlds.
